The short answer

Three machines of one class, three different sums

All three are free-standing Q-Switch Nd:YAG lasers: 1064 and 532 nm, a top-hat beam, up to 10 Hz, multi-pulse modes. On the chair they do the same work — removing a tattoo over a series of treatments whose number depends mostly on the ink and its depth.

The Edge costs 133,497 zł gross with delivery, installation, training and a skin-cooling unit — and it is the only one of the three whose price is published at all. The estimated market value of the Spectra is around 300,000 zł, of the NanoStar around 280,000 zł. In a lease instalment that is three treatments a month against seven, for the whole term of the agreement.

The starting point

Will any of them do it better?

All three are built around the same thing: an Nd:YAG resonator with an active Q-Switch, 1064 and 532 nm, a top-hat beam, up to 10 Hz. The physics of shattering ink is identical in each, and none of them has a technology the other two lack.

You could not tell these three apart by the result on a tattoo: the outcome is decided by the pigment, the depth, and the energy density you set. The differences start outside the resonator — in spot size, in what the kit includes, in price, and in who services the device when it stops.

Pulse

Pulse and peak power

The Edge and the Spectra publish the same energy at 1064 nm: 1200 mJ. The Spectra delivers it in 5 ns, the Edge in 6 ns — on paper 240 MW against 200 MW of peak power.

In practice, 5 and 6 ns sit on the same shelf. Both pulses fall within the same photoacoustic window, and at the same spot both devices put exactly the same energy into the skin. The real boundary runs elsewhere: between the nanosecond and picosecond classes, where the pulse is shorter by two orders of magnitude, not by a single nanosecond.

Asclepion does not publish a pulse energy, so the NanoStar’s peak power cannot be calculated — that cell in the table stays empty.

How many treatments cover the instalment

An instalment only means something against the revenue the device earns. For the Edge we calculate it from the published catalogue price. For the Spectra and the NanoStar — from estimated market value, because none of their manufacturers or Polish distributors publishes a price.

We calculate the instalment as 1% of the laser’s value per month. It is an average. The real figure depends on the term, the deposit and the residual. Treat this as a preview, not an offer.

The Spectra and NanoStar prices are estimated market value, rounded to 10,000 zł — derived from used-device prices from 2018, 2022 and 2025 and from our knowledge of working in this market. On 23.08.2026 we checked three Polish distributors of these brands: none publishes a price for any device. If any of these prices is ever published, we will put it in place of the estimate.

You know what service costs before you buy

A breakdown costs more than the repair itself, because clients booked three weeks ahead do not reschedule themselves.

Our rates for inspections, calibrations and repairs are written out in the price list together with turnaround times. You can compare them with what you hear from the other two before you sign, not at the first breakdown. Lutronic writes of lower system costs with a "Data on file" footnote — a document the reader cannot open; ask every supplier you are considering for a published price list.

The choice

Which one to buy?

Modestic Edge

For a clinic removing tattoos at 1064 and 532 nm that counts the instalment and the treatment time. The largest spot and the lowest mass of the three, with delivery, installation, training and — alone among the three — a skin-cooling unit in the price. Service is run by the importer, with a published price list.

Hollywood Spectra

The same Q-Switch class, so a result on the chair very close to the Edge. A pulse 1 ns shorter and a fractional MDF handpiece, which the Edge lacks — but a spot more than a third smaller, skin cooling not included, and an estimated market value more than twice the Edge’s price.

Asclepion NanoStar Y

Working parameters nearly identical to the Edge: the same 6 ns pulse, the same resonator class, a very similar result on skin. It weighs 150 kg against 80, its spot is more than three times smaller, skin cooling is bought separately — and by our estimate it costs more than twice as much.

We compare the NanoStar Y — the Nd:YAG 1064 and 532 nm version, the one that does the same job as the Edge. The C and C MT versions with a 694 nm ruby rod serve a different range of applications and stay outside this comparison.

We checked Asclepion’s product page and two revisions of their brochure, from 2021 and 2024: the pulse energy appears in none of them, at any wavelength. The photographs of the Hollywood Spectra and the NanoStar come from Cynosure Lutronic’s and Asclepion’s press materials and remain their property. All three are manufacturers’ photographs, not renderings.

Results

Tattoo removal is a process

Ink does not vanish after one session. It shatters into fragments the body clears over weeks, and the pace depends on depth, the tattoo’s age, and how the skin responds between sessions.

That is why two things are needed at once: a device that genuinely delivers what it shows on screen, and someone who knows what to expect after each session. We sell and service the equipment ourselves, and new Modestic Edge operators are trained by our specialists.

Doubts

The questions we get most often

An amateur black design usually a few to a dozen, dense studio colour more. A nanosecond laser typically needs a few sessions more than a picosecond one on the same ink — that is the price of the lower instalment. Depth and the design’s age decide, along with the gaps between sessions; the photo strip above shows a typical pace, where after four sessions the design is clearly lightened, not gone.
Not the way equipment built for colour will. The main wavelengths of all three — 1064 and 532 nm — work on black and red. The Edge and the Spectra have optional 585 and 650 nm dye handpieces, but those are supplementary tips of modest energy, not the answer to colour ink. Green and blue are removed with 694 nm ruby and 755 nm alexandrite lasers, where that wavelength is the main one — as in the NanoStar’s C versions, which stay outside this comparison. We do not sell such devices.
It is a 20% difference in peak power at the same energy — pulses from one shelf, which at an equal spot put the same amount into the skin. What changes the class of equipment is the move to picosecond lasers, where the pulse is shorter by two orders of magnitude. We know of no study comparing these two specific devices on the same tattoos, so we make no promise either way.
Because Asclepion does not publish one. We checked the product page and two revisions of the brochure, from 2021 and 2024 — no energy in any of them, at any wavelength. What they do publish is maximum fluence, a parameter from the other end of the system. An energy could be worked out from it, but only under an assumption they never wrote down — so we do not print that number.
That depends on how many sessions you want to sell per tattoo, and at what price. Picosecond shortens the pulse by two orders of magnitude and usually shortens the series, but costs a multiple of these devices. We compared three picosecond lasers by the same method and under the same sourcing rule, on a separate page.
From used-device prices from 2018, 2022 and 2025 and from working in this market, not from a published price list — which is why both figures carry "estimated market value", not "price". We checked the Polish distributors of both brands: none publishes a price for any device. If either price is ever published, we will put it in place of the estimate.
It is cheaper because we import it directly and service it ourselves, with no intermediary headquarters in the chain. Where it loses, we have said outright: the Spectra has the shorter pulse and the fractional handpiece, and the NanoStar’s C versions have the ruby. The Edge will not make up any of those three with its price — but for removing tattoos at 1064 and 532 nm, none of them is needed.
We respond within a day and keep parts on site, so a repair starts fast. For a longer standstill you can use a replacement device. The rates for inspections, calibrations and repairs are in the published price list.
The Ministry of Health communication of 23 January 2026 reserves corrective aesthetic-medicine procedures for physicians and lists high-energy lasers among the devices, but explicitly excludes treatments performed on devices approved for use by people other than physicians. So who may work is decided by the manufacturer’s instructions for use, not by a job title. The manufacturer of the Modestic Edge defined its intended purpose as purely aesthetic and approved operation by appropriately trained people, so with us it is not only physicians who may treat.
