Permanent makeup removal in summer – is it safe?
Many PMU artists, as well as clients, wonder whether permanent makeup removal treatments can be safely performed during the summer season? The answer is: yes, provided you follow specific skin care and protection rules.
Regardless of whether you use a picosecond laser, nanosecond laser, or remover, proper skin preparation and client education are key.

What to watch out for when removing PMU in summer?
In summer, the biggest threat is not the laser treatment or chemical remover itself, but improper post-treatment care.
Skin after pigment removal is sensitized, and sun exposure without protection can lead to discoloration or hyperpigmentation.
That’s why these rules are so important:
- absolute use of SPF 50 filters for at least 4 weeks after treatment,
- avoiding sun exposure (hat, shade, umbrella),
- avoiding tanning beds, saunas, pools for several days after treatment,
- informed client consent for treatment with discussion of seasonal risks.
Laser, remover, or postpone the treatment altogether?
In summer, both laser treatments and remover removal can be safely performed if UV protection rules, which we wrote about above, are followed.
Laser permanent makeup removal for eyebrows or lips requires special caution with darker skin phototypes and directly after vacations in warm countries.
In such cases, it’s best to plan treatments in stages. If the skin is very tanned, the treatment should be postponed.
