Are you a PMU artist who doesn’t yet perform pigment removal, but you’re increasingly hearing questions from your clients about permanent makeup and tattoo removal?
Do you want to know how to professionally approach tattoo and PMU removal?
This article is your mini-guide on how a laser works for tattoo and PMU removal (from eyebrows, lips, eyeliners), its advantages, and what to pay special attention to for a safe and effective procedure.
After reading it, this question will no longer surprise you!
A laser for PMU and tattoo removal works by absorbing light through the pigment in the skin. The laser energy breaks down pigment particles into smaller fragments. This causes inflammation and activates the immune system.
In this process, a key role is played by macrophages – immune system cells that “engulf” the broken-down ink particles and transport them to the lymphatic system. From there, the pigment is gradually eliminated by the body, and the skin regenerates.
Laser tattoo and permanent makeup removal also differs in the number of sessions required. Thicker skin on the arms, back, or thighs requires more treatments, as pigment embedded in denser tissue needs more time to break down and be transported by macrophages than in the delicate skin of the face, neck, or décolletage, where elimination is faster.
